Why Fall Is the Best Time to Start Laser Treatments in Portland

Every October, something shifts in Portland. The tourists thin out, the light goes golden, and locals start thinking about their skin again — specifically, what they want it to look like by the time holiday season rolls around. If you’ve been curious about laser treatments but kept putting it off, fall is genuinely the best time to start. Here’s why.

The Sun Is Your Biggest Obstacle. Fall Removes It.

Laser skin resurfacing — whether that’s LaseMD Ultra, GeniusRF microneedling, or any energy-based treatment — works by creating controlled injury to the skin. That triggers collagen remodeling, resurfaces texture, and fades pigmentation. But in the weeks after treatment, your skin is more photosensitive than usual. Sun exposure during that window can cause hyperpigmentation, redness that lingers, and inconsistent results.

In Maine, fall means shorter days, lower UV index, and far less time spent outdoors in direct sun. For Portlanders, that’s ideal. You get the treatment, you heal protected, and by the time you’re back in shorts next June, your results are fully matured.

Results Take Time — Fall Gives You That Window

Laser and energy-based treatments aren’t instant. LaseMD Ultra resurfaces the skin over 3–5 days of mild peeling; GeniusRF stimulates collagen that builds over 3–6 months. If you start in October, you’re looking at real, visible results by January — right in time for holiday events, winter weddings, and New Year’s photos.

Starting in summer means healing during peak sun exposure. Starting in fall means arriving at your best skin exactly when you want to show it off.

What We Offer at Maine Aesthetic Medicine

We offer two primary laser and energy-based treatments — each targeting different concerns and depths of skin remodeling.

Laser Resurfacing

LaseMD Ultra

A fractional thulium laser that resurfaces the outer skin layers — reducing fine lines, sun damage, uneven tone, and dullness. Minimal downtime, significant glow. Ideal for first-time laser patients.

Starting at $599

RF Microneedling

GeniusRF Microneedling

Radiofrequency energy delivered via microneedles to stimulate deep collagen remodeling. Tightens laxity, refines pores, smooths texture, and improves skin quality over 3–6 months. A fall series is our most popular skin investment.

Starting at $850

Level Up: Add PDGF for Faster Healing & Better Results

Both LaseMD Ultra and GeniusRF microneedling pair beautifully with Pure PDGF by Ariessence — a next-generation regenerative growth factor applied topically during and after treatment. Adding PDGF accelerates healing, deepens collagen stimulation, and enhances the final outcome.

Regenerative Add-On

Regenerative LaseMD Ultra with PDGF

LaseMD treatment plus PDGF application for faster recovery and amplified resurfacing results.

$899

Regenerative Add-On

Regenerative GeniusRF with PDGF

GeniusRF microneedling plus PDGF application for superior collagen stimulation and reduced downtime.

$1,150

Ariessence Pure PDGF is FDA-approved for topical use only — including application after microneedling and laser treatments. The injectable use being offered at Maine Aesthetic Medicine is an off-label treatment currently in clinical trials. A thorough consultation is required and all associated risks will be fully discussed prior to treatment.

What to Expect: Your Fall Laser Timeline

Here’s how a typical fall laser treatment plan looks for our Portland patients:

  • October: Consultation + first GeniusRF or LaseMD treatment. Mild redness and peeling for 3–5 days.
  • November: Follow-up treatment (if doing a series). Skin is visibly smoother, tone more even.
  • December–January: Peak collagen remodeling. Results are fully visible. Skin looks refreshed, tighter, and glowing.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Fall laser treatments work well for people dealing with any of the following:

  • Sun damage, freckles, or uneven pigmentation from summer
  • Fine lines and early texture changes
  • Enlarged pores or rough skin surface
  • Skin laxity in the face, neck, or décolleté
  • Dullness or lack of radiance heading into winter

Most skin types and tones are candidates for one or both of our treatments. A consultation at our Portland studio will help determine which protocol is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much sun exposure is too much after laser treatment?

We recommend strict SPF 50 daily and avoiding prolonged direct sun for at least 4 weeks after treatment. In October–November in Maine, that’s very manageable.

Can I combine LaseMD and GeniusRF?

Yes — some patients benefit from both treatments in a complementary series. We’ll discuss what makes sense for your specific skin concerns at your consultation.

How many treatments do I need?

LaseMD Ultra can deliver noticeable results in a single session, though a series of 2–3 spaced 4–6 weeks apart provides more significant improvement. GeniusRF is often recommended in a series of 3 treatments, though one session delivers meaningful results.

Will I have downtime?

LaseMD Ultra involves mild redness and skin shedding for 3–5 days. GeniusRF has a bit more variability — most patients see redness and mild swelling for 24–48 hours. Most Portland patients schedule treatments on a Thursday or Friday to recover over the weekend.
